Travel Hacks That Every Solo Female Traveller Should Know

Some would say it takes a brave woman to travel solo these days, although many young female travelers do exactly that on a regular basis. Common sense should prevail when in a foreign country, and with that in mind, here are some travel hacks that female solo adventurers should know and use.

✔      Make copies of important documents – You could print off a few copies of the main photo page of your passport, plus your current visa and entry date, plus you can take photos of the same documents to give you hard and soft copies. This might include insurance pre existing conditions mentioned in your health insurance policy, plus copies of air tickets and important receipts.

✔      Roll your clothes – This hack originated back in the 1970s when hippies were on the trail, and you would be surprised at how much luggage space you can save by doing this. What’s more, if done correctly, there will be no creases on your garments. If you are off on a solo adventure, rolling clothes will enable you to pack more.

✔      Always check travel advisories – This would be on your embassy website in the destination country, and it makes sense to check that you are not restricted in any way. The covid pandemic showed us just how quickly things can change, and it only takes a few minutes. If you are looking for a cool honeymoon destination, here are a few ideas.

✔      Buy a personal alarm – These are amazing; search the web for a supplier and browse the many examples; some utilize a high-pitched whistle and a loud noise, with a bright LED spotlight that you can shine in a person’s eyes to disorientate them so you can make a getaway. If you find yourself walking alone down a dimly lit street, keep the alarm in your hand, as it is best to be safe than sorry.

✔      Buy comprehensive health & travel insurance – Take out a policy that covers you for all medical expenses as well as personal possessions. It is so easy to lose a camera or smartphone, and if you are the victim of a pickpocket, your insurance covers you for such things.

✔      Don’t keep all your cash in one place – This avoids the chance of all your money being lost or stolen; simply split the cash storage 3 ways, and should you lose one, you have others.

✔      Google Translate – Download the app, and you can converse with anyone in any language, which means you no longer need to pack a phrase book when traveling to a non-English speaking country.

✔      Don’t accept drinks from strangers – This should be a hard and fast rule that should never be broken; it seems to be common for bad people to slip a drug into a girl’s drink; never, for example, leave your drink on the bar while you go to the restroom.

We hope that this article helps you stay safe when travelling alone in Thailand or any other country.
