Disassemble your xbox one like a pro

This is a complete guide on disassembling your Xbox One. We will go over everything you need to know in order to take your console apart, including what tools you will need and how to put it back together.

You will need the following tools:

  • A Phillips head screwdriver
  • A small flathead screwdriver
  • A spudger or a plastic opening tool
  • A Torx T8 security bit

How to take apart an xbox

  1. Start by taking off the detachable faceplate. There are six screws holding it in place, three on each side. Use your Phillips head screwdriver to remove them.
  2. Once the faceplate is off, you will see the optical drive and the hard drive bay. The hard drive bay is not removable, so we will focus on the optical drive.
  3. To remove the optical drive, first unscrew the two screws on the back of the drive.
  4. Then, pull the drive out from the front. There are two plastic tabs holding it in place, so you will need to use a little force.
  5. Now that the optical drive is removed, we can move on to taking apart the controller.
  6. Start by taking off the battery cover. There are two screws holding it in place, one on each side. Use your Phillips head screwdriver to remove them.
  7. Once the cover is off, you will see the batteries and the circuit board. The batteries are not removable, so we will focus on the circuit board.
  8. To remove the circuit board, first unscrew the four screws on the back of the controller.
  9. Then, carefully disconnect the battery cables and lift the board out.
  10. You have now successfully disassembled your Xbox One!

Cleaning up your xbox one

Dust off the inside of your Xbox One with a can of compressed air. Be sure to hold the can upright so that the propellant doesn’t freeze and damage the delicate components inside.Wipe down the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasives, as these can damage the finish.

Tips for preventing damage during disassembly

  1. Be sure to disconnect the power supply before you begin disassembly.
  2. Handle circuit boards and other sensitive components with care. Avoid touching them with your hands or static-prone materials like wool.
  3. Use plastic opening tools instead of metal ones to avoid scratching surfaces.
  4. Work on a clean, flat surface to prevent small parts from getting lost.
  5. Be patient and take your time. Rushing disassembly can lead to mistakes.
  6. If you are unsure about any part of the process, consult a professional or the Xbox One support website.
