Many of us are fortunate enough not to think about our skin much, if at all, on a day-to-day basis. It is the largest organ we as humans possess, but it yet takes up very little mental space – until, that is, you notice something. That something could be a strange mark or new blemish, but sometimes it’s far, far simpler: we look tired.

Being tired is not a surprise for anyone here, whether the long-suffering parents of rowdy kids or workers ready to drop on the spot. Sometimes, though, tired skin can crop up seemingly out of nowhere – and doesn’t go away. What exactly are the causes of tired-looking skin? And how can we fix it?

Tired skin, though often appearing out of the blue, does not happen in a vacuum. There are many common factors which can contribute to dull, dry and generally fatigued skin, some of which are habitual, some of which are environmental and some of which are simply genetic. Luckily, there’s a solution for practically any instance of tired skin as a result.

The most common causes for tired skin are dehydration and poor sleep – both factors which you’d be hard-pressed not to recognize in your own life, most likely. Stress and diet are also naturally linked to the health of your skin, as are environmental aggressors like pollution and sun exposure. Establish a Consistent Skincare Routine

Whatever you attribute the most to your skin fatigue issues, a daily skincare regimen can only be a good thing for you. There are three core approaches you should take, then one bonus option for enhancing the radiance of your skin. The first approach is cleansing, achieved with exfoliation and a light cleanser suitable for sensitive skin; you’re trying to keep your natural skin oils in place while removing dead skin cells.

The second approach is moisturizing, achieved with topical moisturizers. The third is, of course, sun protection – sun damage being a leading cause of tired-looking skin, and UV damage being a serious health risk even on cloudy days. Your final, optional approach would be to utilize skin brightening products to address your skin tone and enhance overall vibrance. Your skin will repair over time, but this is a fast-track to addressing problem spots.

Incorporate Hydration and Nutrition

Treating tired skin isn’t just an external matter, but also an internal one. How you treat your body matters a great deal, from the amount of water you drink each day to the makeup of your daily diet. Try eating more fresh vegetables and oily fish, as well as upping your water intake; also consider cutting alcohol and caffeine to reduce water loss.

Adopt Lifestyle Changes for Long-Term Benefits

As a final note, skin health is not a short-term issue with short-term solutions. It is a long-term endeavor, which changes as you age. The sooner you make positive lifestyle changes with respect to exercise, diet, sleep and stress management, the sooner you will see positive, youthful results!
